And the Angel of the LORD said to her: “Behold, you are with child, and you shall bear a son. You shall call his name Ishmael, because the LORD has heard your affliction.” Genesis 16:11 NKJV
No matter the circumstances, no matter the cause, God not only sees and knows, but He hears. Hagar found herself in very dire circumstances at no cause of her own. She did the only thing she knew to do…RUN! And what did she find? God. The God Who didn’t just see her but also heard her. He even had her name her unborn child “Ishmael” which means “God hears.” Can you imagine? Every time she would call out her son’s name, she would be reminded of the fact that God hears.
He hears you too. God hears your crying in the midst of the pain and the struggle. He hears your heart when there simply are no words. He hears. Call out to the One Who hears. He may not change your circumstances, but He will speak to you in the midst. And just like Hagar, God will not only give you what is needed to face your affliction but remind you He is in it with you.
